Treating Periodontal Disease Q & A

What are my treatment choices if I have periodontal disease?

If your periodontal disease is advanced and you have missing or loose teeth, extraction of teeth and replacement with dental implants may be the best choice. For information on the symptoms of periodontal disease please click here.

Is there any harm in waiting until the last minute to have my teeth extracted?

When you have periodontal disease that means that you have a chronic infection in the gums around your teeth.  Allowing this infection to persist for months and years will result in an irreversible loss of the bone that supports your teeth and may increase the  likelihood that bone grafting will be necessary before or during implant placement.  In some cases so much bone may have been lost that large grafts may be necessary which increases the risks.  If you have missing or loose teeth due to gum disease, let Dr. Stankewitz evaluate your issues soon…..
