Porcelain Veneers Q & A
What are porcelain veneers?
Porcelain veneers are ultra thin all ceramic restorations that can be bonded to your teeth. They are used to change the shape and/or shade of a tooth and when bonded to enamel, they can be strong and long lasting.
What are the benefits of veneers over crowns?
Veneers are considered ultra conservative dental restorations as compared to crowns because they require little or no removal of tooth structure. Crowns require a significant removal of tooth structure to make room for the restorative materials and are used when there is tooth structure missing due to fracture or decay.
Can I have porcelain veneers made for me without grinding on my teeth?
In some cases, veneers can be placed on natural teeth without removing any tooth structure by grinding. If your teeth are deficient in size then this type of non invasive treatment is possible. Most cases require the removal of approximately .5mm of enamel in order to make room for the porcelain. Without this minimal reduction of tooth structure, the veneers would be overly bulky.
What makes Dr. Stankewitz’s porcelain veneers different than others?
Our office has an in house laboratory and Dr. Stankewitz personally shade matches and fabricates each patient’s veneers by hand.
